The Calorie Bonus Explained

Earn extra food calories when you move more than usual! Learn how Lose It! calculates bonuses whether your device tracks total daily calories or step counts.

OVERVIEW

How Any Calorie Bonus Works

Your starting daily food budget already accounts for standard day-to-day living. A Calorie Bonus is extra food allowance added to your log once your fitness device sees that you've moved more than your normal baseline.

THE FIXED BILLS

Target Burn (Maintenance)

This is like your regular monthly expenses. These essential calories are already completely accounted for in your standard, daily budget plan.

THE EXTRA INCOME

Additional Exercise & Movement

Any intentional working out or additional step activity you complete throughout the day acts like earning supplementary revenue to help you pay your bills.

THE BONUS TO SPEND

Earning Above the Expectation

You only unlock a spendable Calorie Bonus once your overall tracker income exceeds the maintenance threshold originally expected of you.

Which Bonus System Do You Use?

How your bonus works depends on what your connected device tracks:

SMARTWATCHES

Calorie Burn Bonus

Apple Watch Fitbit Garmin
What it tracks: All the calories you burn throughout the day from living, moving, and exercising.
How you earn a bonus: Once your watch shows you've burned more calories today than your Target Burn, the extra calories are added to your budget.
Simple Rule: Pass your Target Burn = Earn extra calories to eat!
PHONE TRACKERS

Steps Calorie Bonus

Apple Health Health Connect
What it tracks: The total steps you walk while carrying your phone.
How you earn a bonus: Once you walk past your Target Steps, your extra steps unlock bonus calories for your food budget.
Simple Rule: Pass your Target Steps = Earn extra calories to eat!

Calorie Bonus Simulator

Select your connected device to see how your activity drives your daily progress and food budget:

Calorie Burn Bonus (Apple Watch)
How your Target Burn is set: Lose It! automatically estimates your baseline daily calorie burn using your profile details (age, weight, height, and gender) plus your selected Activity Level. You can see this exact number on your Goals screen in the app!
How step calories are calculated: Lose It! converts your extra steps into food calories on the back end using your personal stats (like height and weight). To change your Target Steps goal, update your Activity Level under Profile → Goal → Activity Level.
