This article explains why your Apple Watch calorie bonus might be decreasing.
Why is my bonus decreasing?
We’ve seen that sometimes Apple Watch fails to send resting calorie information to the Health app when it’s not worn, such as overnight.
Usually, Apple Health will estimate resting energy burn even when the watch is off. Still, this estimate is skipped entirely in some cases, resulting in a resting burn of 0 for that period.
Since Lose It! calculates your Projected Calorie Burn by pulling resting and active energy data from Apple Health and multiplying that by the percentage of the day remaining, missing data from Apple can lead to unusually low or inconsistent calorie bonus numbers. This often shows up early in the day or when there are gaps in Apple’s reporting.
Several factors might contribute to this issue:
- Inconsistent wear of the Apple Watch (especially during sleep)
- Battery or charging interruptions
- iOS or watchOS software bugs or updates that affect HealthKit syncing
Unfortunately, because we depend on the data Apple Health provides, we’re unable to override or correct these discrepancies within the Lose It! app itself.
Workaround
If you notice the resting calorie data hasn’t been recorded for the current day, the only way to fix it is to manually enter resting energy data in the Apple Health app.
Unfortunately, once a day has passed, the calorie bonus cannot be retroactively updated in Lose It!.
